After leaving the computer on overnight in hope of it sorting itself out I returned this morning to find that the software was still frozen. Due to this we had to re-edit the film to put it all together. During my free I went on Adobe premiere and began to re-edit our work, this was made much easier than expected because even though the software did not save our project it did save our clips in the clipboard; this prevented me having to go through all of our shots to find the ones that we wanted to use. Due to already carrying out this process it was much easier this time because I already had a rough idea of what I had to do.
I have learnt from this ordeal that I should always save my work frequently to prevent any issues.

Not too shabby
Today Lucas and I discussed our idea with Chris. After some thoughts and discussion we adapted the storyline and created a new story board.
During period one and part of period two we carried out a shoot.
After reflecting on some of the issues we have encountered throughout the process we decided that the biggest problem was not having people around to be in our video due to exams. Once we had decided our story we were unsure of whom we could have in it, due to their being two exams today we would not of had much choice, and because of this Lucas suggested that we should be in it ourselves. After deciding that we would be in our video we then had to decide upon where we would film the shots and then organise a costume for Lucas to make him look like a homeless man as well as some props (cardboard boxes, litter, sleeping bag etc) that are symbolically associated with homeless people in the UK. After we had sorted out the basics that were required to establish a realistic set we began our filming. (The cameras that we used were Panasonic HDC-SD60 http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/Camcorders/1MOS+HD+Camcorders/HDC-SD60/Overview/3297260/index.html) During the filming process we used two cameras two gain different angles so that there would be different perspectives to the clip. Along with the cameras we used tripods for both to increase the quality of the shot by removing any chance of unsteady filming. They were also a great use because of the fact that we were in the video we could set up the cameras and the angles and use the tripods to hold them, due to this we were able to carry out the task without any issues.
When placing the cameras we used five different angles, we did this because the clip would of been rather boring if we did not use different angles throughout the clip, by doing so we gave ourselves more choices when editing as well.
For the second scene which focussed on the mugging we used a standard knife rather than a more dangerous item, we felt that it was all that was necessary for the image that we wanted to deliver. For the clip we used two angles, the first is shown above which shows the characters walking away from the camera and the second angle was from across the road showing the action from another perspective. I felt that each of the angles made it feel like the viewer is a witness is actually there.
After we finished our filming during second period we decide to continue in the fourth and fifth period. During our fourth period we began our editing of the clips, during this we went through all of the clips that had taken and selected the ones that were good. After that we began to add them onto Adobe premiere, as we finished putting all the clips together we encountered a problem, the software decided to freeze and we hadn’t saved our work, due to this we decided to leave the computer to sort its self out so that we do not lose our work.
Due to the minor crisis we decided to download the songs we require to add to our video, now that we have done that we are ready to complete this segment of the video, however the software was still frozen.
Hopefully the software will sort its self out by the end of school otherwise we will either loose our work or I will leave it turned on over night to see if it is ok in the morning and we will complete it in the morning during second period.

Same again!
Once again exams get in the way.
Today we have not done any filming because I had an exam in the morning and Lucas has a cricket match. Lucas and I have decided we will film our video tomorrow as we do not have any lessons.

Not too successful!
Today Lucas and Chris had exams during the session, so we were unable to progress. In the lesson I spent some time on Adobe premiere to familiarise myself with the software, hopefully this will help me at a later date. Later in the day Lucas wanted to do some filming during our free however I had an exam which prevented this. After my exam Lucas and I went to do some filming but when trying to decide upon what scene to film we both felt that our current story requires a lot of actors and we may need to make some changes, due to this we decided to spend our free discussing alternative ideas which would make the process much simpler. After this we have had some thoughts but will wait until tomorrow to run them by Vhris to make sure he is happy with them.
Update
Yesterday Chris had an exam and was not available to participate in the session, Lucas and I decided to carry on with the filming anyway. However we soon found that due to exams the people we wanted to be in our video were not available, This was a big issue and we found that we were unable to do any filming. Instead we decided to do some research on the internet.
When browsing we came across these webbsites which we found to be very helpful:

Thes two slide shows look into the basics that need to be considered when making a video and acted as tool to stimulate our thoughts.
After looking at the slide shows I also came across a useul video that looks at filming techniques.
When browsing we decided to look up lip syncing, we felt that it was very important to understand the basic steps that need to be taken during the process particuarly as neither of us have ever done so before. Among many sites that we looked at, many of which were not helpful however we came across one website which was very helpful and gave us the right amount of information we wanted. Todays work
Today Lucas, Chris and I completed our storyboard. We felt happy with it and decided upon starting our practical work.
Before doing I decided to carry out some research on filming and when doing so I came across this website which I found to be very useful: http://camcorders.about.com/od/videorecordingtips/a/ShootingTips.htm
In our lesson we decided to film our news bulletin scene, in which a news bulletin would be carried out announcing a tsunami. At first we decided on making a cardboard TV, however after considering this we decided upon it as being rather childish and we soon discarded this idea, after deciding upon taking a more serious approach we had to consider a set for the scene. After discussing options we approached the Head and asked to use his office as we felt that his office was the most similar to a news set, however when we tried filming in there we found that the lighting was not right so after this we used another room within school which had much better lighting and the use of a few minor props that are symbolically associated with news bulletins (laptop, papers, desk and chair) we were able to create a set that could be associated with a news show.
When filming we varied the light by controlling the amount of natural light coming into the room and we also used additional lights around the news reader to add to the mise en scene. We used a digital camera along with a tripod, when filming this shot we only used one type of shot as this scene will be shown on a TV screen within one of our other clips and will play a part within the mise en scene.
Overall I am happy with our progress today and on Monday we will continue with our film making. On Monday we will need to gather a cast for the piece and will need to sort out costumes for some characters.

Storyboard
Today we started our storyboarding. So far it is going well and tomorrow I think we will be ready to start our practical work.
So far we have come up with a story and songs to tie in with the dialogue throughout the story, we have almost reached the end of the story and now only need to decide upon the ending of our short video.
Whilst planning we have considered the mise en scene, this has included the sets where we will film, people who will be included in the video and we have considered some camera angles however we need to consider this factor more and we shall do so once we have finally finished thinking of the story line.

Research
After being set the task to create a story board I felt it necessary to look into storyboards and what their overall purpose is and how they can be used effectively.
I found that this link was one of the most helpful websites: http://accad.osu.edu/womenandtech/Storyboard%20Resource/
Along with this website I also looked at: http://multimedia.journalism.berkeley.edu/tutorials/starttofinish/storyboarding/

Preliminary task
Today we have discussed our A2 coursework and what we will have a choice of doing. Unlike our AS coursework we have been given a greater choice on what we can do.
Bellow are the options:
Brief 1
After considering all of the briefs I have decided upon carrying out Brief 1. This is for a few reasons, first of all music is a big part of my life and I feel that this factor will make the project more enjoyable as I already have a great interest. Secondly I feel that my schools media department is more setup for Brief 1 and has mostly focused on this brief in the past. Finally I feel that by living in on the coast in the countryside I have already got a set that could be used within my video, I think I should use this to my advantage as many other people throughout the country will not have such a privledge.
Bellow are the options:
Brief 1
A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, no longer than five minutes duration, together with:
- a cover for its release on DVD
- a magazine advertisement for the DVD
- a film magazine review page featuring the film.Brief 2
A promotion package for a new film, to include a teaser trailer, together with:
- a film magazine front cover, featuring the film
- a poster for the film
Brief 3
An advertising package for a new product or service, to include two TV advertisements, together with
- a radio advertisement
- a web pop-up
Brief 4
A promotion package for a new soap opera, to include a TV trailer, together with:
- a listings magazine front cover featuring the new soap
- a poster for the soap
Brief 5
A selection of materials related to an original children's TV drama, to include the title sequence to the TV programme, together with:
- the front cover to a magazine for the series
- a DVD cover for the series
Brief 6
A short film in its entirety, lasting approximately five minutes, which may be live action or animation or a combination of both, together with:
- a poster for the film

Before carrying out Brief 1 my peers and I will first of all carry out a preliminary task which we shall use to gain experience in film making.
In class today we watched the two videos bellow:
For our preliminary task our class has been split into groups of threes, I am in a group with two of my peers called Lucas and Chris. After watching the two links above in class our teacher has set us the task of creating our own videos similar to the ones we have watched. We have first of all been told to work together and make story board and after we have done this we will be able to carry out the practical work. By carrying out this task we should learn new camera skills, editing skills and also how to lip sync and make sure that the audio and visual clips piece together well, such skills will be very important in the making of my final piece.
